I just had to share this. I put this under 'personal blog' just because I wouldn't want it seem like some 'official' tip from any business. So, just take this as a shared personal experience.
I just got off the phone with
someone complaining that all of their stored email is gone. It must
have happened on the server where someone must have messed with his
mailbox. hmmmm It seems this Idiot (yes, I will freely
say, outright, IDIOT) was using the Deleted Folder as storage. Idiot,
or Mr. Idiot as those dummies that can relate to this dope might call
him, was thinking that everything in Deleted would stay there forever
for when he needed it.

Tired of Quicktime and RealPlayer starting up when you boot up? Or having to change your startup preferences everytime those programes update? Have you ever tried to view a video and you don’t have the right Codec? DivX? What’s that?
Well, it's time for an alternative.

There are many FTP programs out there to use to upload files to your website. Some free, some commercial. A couple of commercial products are WS_FTP and CuteFTP.
Free downloads include WinSCP (http://winscp.net/eng/index.php ) and FileZilla .
From the screenshots of winscp, it looks a little 'friendlier' to non-techies. And it has a built-in text editor which is very helpful when making quick edits to your html site. |

Two common, yet useless email features are Return Receipt and Auto-Reply.
They sound great in theory, with Auto-Reply letting people know you might be on vacation and when you will return, and Return Receipt telling you that they read your message. But, this assumes a perfect e-world, where there is no spam, and we pretend that Return Receipt is similar to paper mail from the Post Office. In reality they are completely useless.

We’ve been asked many times about how to get more traffic to your websites. There’s no easy or cheap solution. A few simple things that can be done affordably is to add metatag descriptions and keywords. And have that description be closely related to the actual content on the page. Search engines want content. They love content. If you content is well written, and informative, the search engines may index you better. After all, they want their search results to give the user excellent info. If you need help writing more “gooder” content for your website, contact us. We have excellent Copy Writers available to us. (I just don’t use them, so my content can be real badly riten.) For better results,

I found this on the web recently. The person was trying to find a solution to an issue, and it looked like only their Server Admin would have access to what needed fixing.
It doesn't matter what the issue is:
It's failed on 6 domains now.. and My host is MIA.
Some college student or something and he's not on right now. Help.
This is not meant to be a criticism of college students. Some of the biggest companies in the world were started in a dorm room or garage by students. Microsoft, Dell, Google, Yahoo. But, you can see the general 'feel' of the comment, as they don't feel like they can rely on the host. |

AOL seems to make reporting email as spam way way too easy.
Over the past couple months, I've been seeing way too many legitimate email being reported as junk.
It is likely an accident on the part of the AOL user, but AOL counts those mistakes. Here are just a couple of examples: |

You really have to stop using that AOL address and step up to the 20th Century.
Yes, we know it's the 21st Century. That's our point. People (other adults) were using Professional, Grown-up, Adult email addresses way back in the 1990's.
