FTP programs

There are many FTP programs out there to use to upload files to your website. Some free, some commercial.

A couple of commercial products are WS_FTP and CuteFTP.

Free downloads include WinSCP (http://winscp.net/eng/index.php ) and FileZilla .

From the screenshots of winscp, it looks a little 'friendlier' to non-techies. And it has a built-in text editor which is very helpful when making quick edits to your html site.

 

Useless: Return Receipt, and Auto-Reply

Two common, yet useless email features are Return Receipt and Auto-Reply.

They sound great in theory, with Auto-Reply letting people know you might be on vacation and when you will return, and Return Receipt telling you that they read your message. But, this assumes a perfect e-world, where there is no spam, and we pretend that Return Receipt is similar to paper mail from the Post Office. In reality they are completely useless.
